Brian McLaren

Pastor, speaker, author, and poster-boy for the emergent wing of the emerging church conversation. By all accounts a really nice, smart, thoughtful, sensitive guy, although he seems to make habits of:

Trying to have the last word on every subject, and
Staking out contrarian (heterodox?) positions as much or more for the sake of their heterodoxy ("it will make you think") than for the sake of any real theological rationale.

If you want to engage in the discussion on the emerging church, post-evangelicalism, post-conservatism, and the rest of the "post-foo" family of trendy alterna-church-think, then sooner or later you will have to come face-to-face with either McLaren's writings or McLaren's ideas regurgitated by someone else.
