It is not the job of the institutional church to enmesh itself in politics, political parties, or statecraft. That is not to say that we are silent on the matter; we should be all about advocating good, wise, just, merciful government. But where that advocacy overflows into any sort of loyalty, fealty, or preferential treatment for any policy, party, or politician, we are on dangerous ground. Politics is fundamentally about power, and we are called to counter-culturally live out the alternative -- servanthood under the wise, sovereign, and providential reign of God.
