Gospel

From Neoredemptive

The gospel is the message of God's redeeming work in history through Jesus Christ: of our despeate need for redemption, and our total inability to affect it ourselves; of God's promise to crush the head of the serpant, our enemy; of His doing so through Jesus' atoning death on the cross; of His conquest over sin and death through the resurrection; of our participation, through the indwelling and empowerment of the Holy Spirit, in the manifestation of the Kingdom of God in our midst; of our eternal destiny to rule and reign with Christ over the new heavens and the new earth in the age to come.

Apart from the gospel, there is no redemption, no hope, no salvation, no church, no worship, no meaning, no value, and no escape, only man's vain anthropocentric attempts to anaesthetize his pain, confusion, baselessness, and the crushing moral complexity of his world.

To rightly understand the human condition, we must understand every experience, every story, every idea with reference to the gospel. The gospel is the ultimate meta-narrative, binding together the entirety of human history under the sovereign and provident reign of its creator and author, the one almighty God.
