Every egalitarian's favorite hapax legomenon. In our day there is a great deal of debate over the meaning of "αυθεντεω". This debate is young because, until the 20th century, there was remarkably little disagreement among Greek scholars as to the meaning of the word in the New Testament period.
Appears once in the New Testament in the present active infinitive (αυθεντειν). This one occurrence bears directly upon the gender roles discussion, hence the furor with which egalitarian authors and exegetes have tried to undermine consensus concerning its meaning.
