Materialism

View that the material universe (consisting of matter and energy) is the full extent of (knowable) existence. Its most aggressive form, promisory materialism, asserts that an understanding of matter, energy, and the laws that govern them will eventually render explanations for every observable phenomenon, including the psychological, paranormal, and spiritual.

Materialism is common among adherents to scientism.

Kant's position (see [1], etc) -- asserting that the "material" world is accessible via reason while the "spiritual" world is only accessible by faith -- is ultimately a capitulation to materialism rather than a dialectic against it, as it wrongly concedes that all of theology resides outside of the realm of that which is "reasonable", "rational", or "testable".
