Post-Conservative

A theological frame of thought, sometimes used synonymously with "post-evangelical", characterized by (among other things) a rejection of foundationalism (their alternative is tactfully called "post-foundationalism") and an emphasis upon contextual (as opposed to universal) understandings of truth and doctrine. It differs from Theological liberalism in that the locus of truth is in the community and its corporate tradition rather than in the experiences of each individual believer.

Characteristic authors include Stanley Grenz (as a theologian - see Renewing the Center) and Brian McLaren (as a popularizer - see A Generous Orthodoxy).

See Reclaiming the Center for essays questioning the rumors of foundationalism's death and exploring many of the incompatibilities between Post-Conservatism and orthodox evangelical theology and methods.
