Book Review Policy

Synopsis

Mark has a habit of bursting onto scenes, and this book was his bombastic dive into the publishing arena.

  • Part 1: Loving your Lord through the Gospel
  • 1. Eat, Drink, and Be a Merry Missionary
  • 2. And Now, the News
  • 3. Shotgun Weddings to Jesus
  • Part 2: Loving your Neighbor in the Culture
  • 4. Elvis in Eden
  • 5. Going to Seminary at the Grocery Store
  • 6. The Sin of Light Beer
  • 7. Postmodern Pandemonium

Doc's Take

Easily the most engaging, challenging, and fun book of 2004 for me. Tony Campolo calls himself an "evangelical prophet", but Driscoll is both more evangelical and more prophetic (in both the charismatic sense and the sociological sense Campolo seems to mean).

There aren't enough guys out there who love Jesus, love scripture, and love sacred cow burgers. Driscoll is such a guy, and every page is delicious. If you haven't, you need to read this book, right now. No, seriously. Stop reading this stupid review and read the book. I promise you will be amply offended, not because Mark has misrepresented God, but because he has represented Him and His mission far more clearly than just about anybody in the evangelical ghetto ever does (or can).
